ADDINGTON BEACH

Good surfing beach

 

NORTH BEACH DURBAN

North Beach is one of the beaches of Durban, South Africa. It is situated north of the harbour and bluff, in between Bay of Plenty and Dairy Beach on Durban's Golden Mile. North Beach is one of the main beaches in Durban and is cared for by the Durban Surf Lifesaving Club. The clubhouse features prominently on the Marine Parade. The beach itself is flanked by two large piers and is accessible from the Marine Parade that stretches along the Golden Mile.

SOUTH BEACH

Part of Durban's world-famous Golden Mile, South Beach is ideal for swimming and surfing. And there's plenty to do along the beachfront besides: hawkers sell Zulu beadwork, baskets, woodwork and handicrafts, and ricksha drivers ply their trade. And at the end of the Golden Mile, spanning over 15 hectares of prime beachfront, lies uShaka Marine World, Africa's biggest marine theme park.

UMDHLOTI BEACH

Umdloti is famous for dolphins that swim very close to the beach early morning and July to November is a good time for Whale watching when whales are often spotted from the beach.

North of Durban, the beaches of Umhlanga come alive during the South African school holidays, offering a feast of fun for the whole family.

There's sea swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, rock pools and warm tidal pools.

BRIGHTON BEACH

Brighton Beach on the Bluff

 

Better known as “the friendly suburb,” Brighton Beach is situated between Durban city centre and Durban International Airport, south of Durban and is known for its world famous surf spot “Cave Rock”, unspoilt beaches and tidal pools. There are multiple rock pools to explore as well as excellent surfing, diving and fishing. Dolphins frolic around these waters year-round close to shore and whales are also regularly spotted in winter which is excellent for some whale watching for your pleasure. The thick coastal vegetation is home to many of the resident monkeys. Bluff Nature Reserve has two bird hides that provide great viewing opportunities.

 

With protected open spaces and no skyscraper buildings to spoil the coast line, Brighton Beach still maintains an environmental awareness. Situated on the outskirts of Durban with about 20 minutes drive to Durban city centre, sports and soccer stadiums, Wilson’s Wharf, Botanical Gardens and uShaka Marine World. Some of the other attractions are the Millenium Tower, a tour of the old whaling station, a game of golf on the 18-hole golf course or shopping at one of the many chain stores. There are also a variety of restaurants and take-aways in the area ranging from seafood restaurants to steak houses, pizza parlours etc.

 

ANSTEYS BEACH

Ansteys Beach is a small beach located in Bluff, a seaside suburb south of Durban, just 10–15km from the city centre. The water has some shallow spots for swimmers, with lifeguards and shark nets in place, and the water is perfect for snorkelling, scuba diving and surfing.

DURBAN BEACHFRONT

Durban is known for their beaches and it is Durban's beautiful beaches that makes it so special and keeps people coming back for more. Practically every office and hotel block in the vicinity of the Durban Beachfront has a sea view.

 

Durban’s Golden Mile, also known as ‘the mile’, runs the length of the Durban beachfront in the city. It includes the promenade and starts roughly at South Beach and uShaka Marine World ending at the Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World to the north. Including Battery beach, Snake Park, Bay of Plenty, North Beach, Dairy, Wedge, South and Addington and the added safety assurance of shark nets and life guard patrols.

It is the promise of gorgeous stretches of golden sands, separated by artificial piers, sub-tropical sunshine and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, together with the reputation as a surfer’s haven that draws thousands of people every year. Durban Beachfront offers exquisite beach view accommodation which holiday goers find hard to resist. Amusement arcades, fleamarkets, numerous quality restaurants and fast-food outlets mean you are never far from your next meal, and other attractions like uShaka Marine World - with the world’s fifth largest aquarium, a water slides amusement park and the re-creation of a cargo ship wreck - the Snake Park and Mini Town combine to make a visit pretty much a whirlwind of activity and fun.
